The Art of Radical Self-Love

Today I want to shine the light on a kind of love that is as vital as breathing, as essential as eating, and yet it is not talked about, emphasized, or encouraged enough in our society. Any guesses? Sharing love, in all of its forms (family-, romantic-, friendship-, community-love), is essential for our health and happiness; it’s what makes us tick. Yet, what many don’t realize (I used to be one of them) is that healthy expressions of these forms of love are only possible when we first learn to unconditionally and unapologetically love and accept ourselves fully – just as we are and for who we are.

Yes, I’m talking about RADICAL SELF-LOVE.

It’s not about having a selfish, self-centered, ego-tripping attitude. Radical Self-Love is about loving yourself fully and completely, with kindness, compassion, patience, and forgiveness. It’s a choice that we make every moment of every day. And that choice is reflected in everything we think, say, and do – from our self-talk, to the foods we eat, to the relationships we have, etc.

Radical Self-Love is ….

“The unconditional love and respect that you have for yourself that is SO deep, SO solid, SO unwavering that you only choose situations, actions, and relationships – including the one with yourself – that reflect that same unconditional love and respect.”

Let’s pause for a moment here. Let this sink in deep. Let it sink to your heart, to your bones, and to every cell of your body. Reread out loud and feel the vibration and energy of each word.

What would it be and feel like to have such unconditional, radical self-love and respect for ourselves that only situations and relationships that reflect that same love and respect would be acceptable to us?

Yes, it takes guts to live this way, but it is so important – and it’s our nature and birthright.. I have come to realize that self-love is the cornerstone and foundation for EVERYTHING.


We must not place our value in how much we DO, how much we HAVE, and how much we ARE. These are all external factors. Don’t let them affect your self-worth. You are ENOUGH, just by being YOU.

I know, this is easier said than done, and it requires work. But it’s so worth it! I don’t know about you but, I am actively and consciously focusing on creating this reality for myself – flexing my radical self-love muscle every day. I am committed to filling up my life with happiness and love, so that I may show up fully and share my caring, positive, loving self with the world.

Let’s give ourselves permission to give ourselves unconditional love and respect – ALWAYS. Let’s give ourselves permission to RECEIVE abundantly on all levels – physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Give yourself permission to BE your own best friend, fan, cheerleader! You are loved and you are worth it.
